Bonanza at 1win
Bonanza was the slot that introduced the Megaways mechanic to the world, and nearly a decade after its 2016 release, it’s still one of the most-played titles in 1Win‘s slot library. Built by Big Time Gaming — the studio Evolution acquired in 2021 for roughly €450 million — Bonanza set the template that hundreds of later Megaways titles would copy: a mining-themed six-reel slot with reacting wins, where the number of symbols per reel changes on every spin.
How Bonanza Works
Each of the six reels can display between 2 and 7 symbols on any given spin, and every matching combination of consecutive symbols — read left to right starting from the leftmost reel, regardless of their exact height on the reel — counts as a win. With the maximum symbol count across all six reels, that produces up to 117,649 ways to win in a single spin.
A row of mine carts sits above reels two, three, four, and five, and each cart adds one extra symbol to the reel it sits above. When a winning combination lands, the winning symbols are removed and replaced by new ones dropping from above on the main reels and coming in from the right in the carts — a mechanic Big Time Gaming calls Reactions. If the new symbols form another win, the process repeats, and every winning combination in the chain is added to your total payout for that spin, all from a single stake.

Wild and Scatter Symbols
The Wild symbol appears exclusively in the mine carts above reels two through five and substitutes for every symbol except the Scatter. Since Wilds only ever appear in the carts, they factor into reactions the same way any other cart symbol does — dropping in from the right as the round cascades.
The GOLD Scatter can land on any of the six reels. Landing four Scatters awards 12 Free Spins, and each additional Scatter beyond the fourth adds 5 more Free Spins to that total.
How to Play
- Register or log in to your 1Win account, then open Bonanza from the slots section.
- Set your stake using the arrow buttons — all payouts are multiplied by the stake used on that spin.
- Press Play to spin the reels at your chosen stake.
- To automate play, press Auto to open the Auto Play panel, where you can set the number of spins along with an optional loss limit and win limit before starting. Auto Play stops automatically once a set limit is reached or if something requires your input, and it may not be available in every jurisdiction.
The Free Spins Bonus
Once triggered, Free Spins carry an unlimited win multiplier that starts at 1x and increases by 1 after every reaction — there’s no cap, so a long chain of cascading wins can climb the multiplier significantly before the round ends. The stake used to trigger Free Spins carries through for the entire feature, and any winnings are credited to your balance automatically once it ends.
Free Spins can also be retriggered, but under different terms than the initial trigger: a separate Free Spin Scatter icon can appear in the carts during the feature, and landing 3 of them awards 5 extra Free Spins, while landing 4 awards 10 extra Free Spins.

RTP and Volatility
Bonanza’s official Return to Player is a flat 96.00%, calculated from simulated results across large numbers of rounds — this figure reflects the maximum expected RTP and doesn’t vary by bet type or bet size, unlike some other titles where RTP shifts depending on which bet you place. Volatility is high: expect stretches without a win between the occasional large payout, most of which come through extended Free Spins chains at a high multiplier.
The maximum win isn’t specified in Bonanza’s official rules text. Third-party sources most commonly cite a 12,000x cap, while some listings for updated releases of the game cite a higher figure — treat any specific max-win number as indicative rather than officially confirmed, and check the paytable inside the game itself for the figure that applies to your version.
Paytable
Payouts for landing 3, 4, 5, and 6 matching symbols in a single combination:
| Symbol | 3 | 4 | 5 | 6 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Purple diamond | 5x | 10x | 25x | 50x |
| Red gem | 1x | 2x | 2.5x | 7.5x |
| Blue crystal | 0.25x | 1x | 1.5x | 2x |
| Green emerald | 0.25x | 0.5x | 0.75x | 2x |
| Ace / King | 0.2x | 0.4x | 0.6x | 1.75x |
| Queen | 0.2x | 0.25x | 0.6x | 1x |
| Jack | 0.15x | 0.25x | 0.5x | 1x |
| Ten | 0.15x | 0.25x | 0.5x | 0.9x |
| Nine | 0.1x | 0.2x | 0.4x | 0.8x |
Only the highest win per combination is paid per line, and all winning combinations from a spin — including every step of a reaction chain — are added together for the total payout.
What Happens If Something Goes Wrong
Bonanza’s official rules cover two scenarios that most reviews never mention. If the game becomes unresponsive or a problem occurs mid-spin, the incomplete spin repeats and the result is shown the next time the game loads; any round left unresolved is automatically settled within 2 days, with any winnings credited to your account. Separately, if a genuine system malfunction occurs, all pays and plays from the affected round are voided — a standard but important protection worth knowing about before you play for real money.
About Big Time Gaming
Big Time Gaming was founded in Sydney, Australia, in 2011 by Nik Robinson. The studio’s invention of the Megaways engine reshaped slot design across the industry, with dozens of other providers eventually licensing the mechanic for their own titles. In 2021, Evolution — the same company behind live game shows like Crazy Time — acquired Big Time Gaming for approximately €450 million.

Tips Before You Play
- Bankroll for volatility: with the bulk of Bonanza’s payout potential concentrated in Free Spins chains, a bankroll of at least 100–150x your stake gives you a realistic chance of reaching the feature more than once per session.
- Use Auto Play’s loss and win limits if you want hands-off sessions with built-in stopping points rather than manual tracking.
- Try the free demo first to get a feel for how the Reactions mechanic and the climbing multiplier play out before wagering real money.
